Counseling Demo in the Subject Skills for Helping Professionals

Our counseling demo in Skills for Helping Professionals was a big step for me, not just academically, but personally. It gave me the chance to actually apply the skills we’ve been learning, and most importantly, to face my fears. I was really nervous, and at one point I even experienced a slight mental block. It felt like I was losing my words one by one, but thankfully, I was able to finish the demo.

What made this experience meaningful was the guidance and support of Ma’am Jover. Her feedback didn’t just help me improve my counseling skills, it also made me realize something deeper about myself. I’ve always struggled with shyness and holding back in class, but when she pointed it out, it became a turning point for me. Her words became a motivation to strive more, participate, and push myself beyond my comfort zone.

Even though I was nervous, I’m proud that I gave it my best. The demo helped me see what I still need to improve, but it also gave me a glimpse of what it’s like to be in a real helping profession. It’s an experience I’ll carry with me as I continue this journey.
