BHumServ Series of Orientation

These past three weeks of orientation have been eye-opening for me as a new Human Services student. Each session brought valuable insights that helped me understand the journey I'm embarking on.

In our first session with Ma'am Jen and Ma'am Caren, I learned about how our program evolved from being Bachelor of Arts in Guidance Counseling to what is now known as Bachelor in Human Services. It was fascinating to discover the program's history and understand the competencies we'll develop. This session made me realize that I'm part of something bigger a field that's constantly growing and adapting to better serve people's needs.

The second week with Ma'am Jover gave me a clearer picture of what lies ahead in my academic journey. Learning about our curriculum and program requirements helped ease some of my anxieties about college. It's like being given a map for a long journey while the path might be challenging, at least I know what to expect and how to prepare myself.

The third session about job opportunities and extension activities with Ma'am PJ and Ma'am Lynna was particularly exciting. It opened my eyes to the many paths I could take after graduation. What struck me most was learning about how we can start gaining practical experience through extension activities even while studying. It made me realize that Human Services isn't just about classroom learning it's about actively engaging with communities and making a real difference. It also stuck in my mind what Ma'am PJ said that we should be realistic and be practical about our future, it's really a big help.

These orientation sessions have reinforced my decision to pursue this program. I've learned that being a Helicon means more than just studying it's about developing ourselves to become professionals who can truly help others. While I know the journey ahead won't be easy, these sessions have given me the confidence and excitement to embrace the challenges that come with it.

As I begin this new chapter, I feel more prepared and inspired. These orientations weren't just about information— they were about helping us understand our role in making a positive impact in people's lives. I'm looking forward to growing both as a student and as a future Human Services professional.
